Make your laptop into a Wifi Hotspot (Connectify)

Do you have a laptop which is Wifi enabled? Then you can turn your laptop into a Wifi Hotspot.

Sharing your internet has never been easy like this before and you don't need additional hardware devices like routers to share it as long as your laptop has Wifi feature. I'll introduce you to Connectify.

I had been using connectify for over 5 months. Well, my main reason for finding this great application is to share internet to mobile phones of my cousins since they visit the house usually on weekends and 3 of them have a wifi enabled phone and so I did some searches and finally came across Connectify.

What is Connectify? Connectify is just a software where it turns Windows laptop with Wifi enabled feature into a Wifi hotspot. It utilizes the PC's built in Wi-Fi card to be able to share the internet connection to nearby friends, neighbors or mobile devices. Besides sharing the internet, you can also share files over your network using Connectify.

Connectify has a lite and pro version. The lite version is free and has limited features and for more information visit Connectify Official page.

Here is a quick tutorial on how to run Connectify.

  • Open Connectify.
  • Set a username and password.  Note: Password feature available to Pro version only
  • In the right side of Internet to choose click "Help me pick" for automatic settings or you can choose the settings of your choice.
  • Sharing mode (if it is WPA2 or WEP, provide password; if it is Ad-Hoc, Open, no need to provide password)
  • Start your Hotspot.
  • Wait for it to establish a connection...
  • Once it is connected, you can test it on your phone or on another laptop.
